How to change Instagram bio fonts

You can't pick a font in Instagram's settings. To change how your bio looks, write the line in a font generator, copy the styled version and paste it into your bio in Edit profile. The style is part of the characters, so it stays when you save.

On iPhone or Android

The steps are the same in the Instagram app on both.

  1. Type your bio line into the generator on this page. Keep it short: one line, such as what you do or a tagline.
  2. Pick a style and press copy. Sans bold and small caps are the easiest to read at bio size.
  3. Open Instagram and tap your profile picture in the bottom corner to go to your profile.
  4. Tap Edit profile, then tap Bio.
  5. Delete the line you want to replace and paste the styled one.
  6. Save with the tick or Done button.
  7. Go back to your profile and check how it looks.

On a computer

  1. Copy your styled line from the generator.
  2. Go to instagram.com, sign in and open your profile.
  3. Click Edit profile.
  4. Click into the Bio box, paste, and submit.

Check the result on a phone too. That's where most people will see it, and phones draw some characters differently from computers.

Change your name font as well

Your display name, the bold line above your bio, takes styled text in the same way. In Edit profile, tap Name and paste.

Leave your username plain. It's your @handle and part of your profile link, so people need to be able to type it.

If it doesn't look right

  • Empty boxes or question marks. The phone or computer has no font with those characters. Pick a style that uses more common characters, such as small caps, or keep that word plain.
  • Some letters look different from the rest. In script, Fraktur and double-struck, a few letters come from an older Unicode block, so some phones draw them in a slightly different design. Try bold script or sans bold.
  • Instagram says your bio is too long. Styled maths letters sit outside Unicode's Basic Multilingual Plane, and systems that count UTF-16 code units count each one as two. Shorten the styled part or style fewer words.
  • Your bio doesn't show up in search. Styled letters are different characters from plain ones. Write your name and what you do in plain text as well.

Keep it readable

Styled text is decoration. Accessible Social notes that some screen readers skip these characters and others read them as noise, so a fully styled bio can be unreadable to blind visitors. Style one line or one word, and keep your contact details, location and anything people need to type in plain letters.
