LinkedIn banner size
A LinkedIn profile banner (LinkedIn calls it the background photo) should be 1584 × 396 pixels, a 4:1 shape, as a PNG or JPG. Uploads to your profile can be up to 8 MB, and GIFs aren't supported. A company Page cover is a different size: 1512 × 256 pixels.

LinkedIn image sizes at a glance
- Profile background photo (banner): 1584 × 396 (4:1, PNG or JPG, no GIF)
- Profile photo: 400 × 400 to 7680 × 4320 (up to 8 MB)
- Company Page cover: 1512 × 256 (minimum and recommended are the same)
- Company Page logo: 400 × 400 (minimum 268 × 268)
- Life tab main image: 1128 × 376 (Career Pages only)
- Image with a link in a Page post: 1200 × 627 (1.91:1, more than 200 wide)
Company Page images must be PNG or JPG and at most 3 MB. LinkedIn suggests a high-resolution JPG rather than a PNG for the sharpest result.
Resize your banner to 1584 × 396
Drop your image into the resizer below. It opens on LinkedIn's profile banner size and crops your picture to 4:1. Move the crop slider to pick which strip of the image stays, then download a JPG or PNG. Nothing is uploaded: it all runs in your browser.

How to make a picture fit your LinkedIn banner
A 4:1 banner is very wide. Most photos are 3:2, 4:3 or 16:9, so a lot has to go.
- Crop a strip. Fill keeps the full width of your photo and cuts the top and bottom. Slide the crop up or down until the part you want, such as a skyline or a desk, sits in the strip.
- Fit on a colour. If nothing can be cut, such as a logo or a slide, choose fit. The whole picture sits in the middle with a background colour on each side. Pick a colour from your brand.
- Start wide. If you're taking a photo for the banner, shoot it in landscape and leave plenty of empty space above and below your subject.
Where your banner gets covered
On your profile, your round profile photo sits over the lower left of the banner. The banner is also cropped differently on phones and on a computer. Keep your key text or logo towards the middle and right, and treat the edges as background. Check it on both a phone and a computer after you upload.
How to change your LinkedIn banner
- Go to your profile.
- Click the camera or pencil icon at the top right of the banner.
- Upload your 1584 × 396 image, adjust it if you need to, and save.
If it won't upload, check that it's a PNG or JPG (not a GIF or HEIC) and under 8 MB. If it still fails, LinkedIn suggests trying a different browser or a smaller, compressed file.
Ratio, inches and other sizes people ask about
- Ratio: 1584 ÷ 396 = 4, so the banner is exactly 4:1. Any 4:1 image works; a 3168 × 792 image is still 4:1, just a bigger file.
- Inches: LinkedIn specifies pixels only. Design at 1584 × 396 pixels and ignore the inch or DPI setting in your design app.
- 1920 × 1080: that's 16:9, made for screens and video. As a banner only a 1920 × 480 strip would show, so you'd lose more than half the height.
- Company Page vs personal profile: they're different. Personal profiles use 1584 × 396; company Pages use 1512 × 256, which is wider still at about 6:1.

Questions
What's the best size for a LinkedIn banner?
1584 × 396 pixels for a personal profile, as a PNG or JPG. For a company Page cover, use 1512 × 256 pixels.
What is the maximum size of a LinkedIn banner?
Profile photo and banner uploads are limited to 8 MB. Company Page images can be up to 3 MB. There's no point going bigger than the recommended pixel size: LinkedIn scales the image down to fit.
Is 1920x1080 good for LinkedIn?
Not for a banner. 1920 × 1080 is 16:9, while the banner is 4:1, so LinkedIn would crop away more than half of its height. Resize it to 1584 × 396 first and choose which strip to keep.
What is the LinkedIn banner size in inches?
LinkedIn only gives the size in pixels: 1584 × 396. Inches depend on the screen or printer, so design in pixels.
