Social media image sizes
There's no single social media image size. As a rule of thumb, make feed posts 1080 pixels wide in a tall shape (4:5 or 3:4), full-screen stories 1080 × 1920 (9:16), profile pictures square and banners wide. The exact sizes for each network are below, checked against their own help pages in November 2026.

Image sizes by network
- Tallest feed post: 1080 × 1440 (3:4)
- Portrait feed post: 1080 × 1350 (4:5)
- Square feed post: 1080 × 1080 (1:1)

Instagram keeps photos at 1080 pixels wide. It crops anything wider than 1.91:1 or taller than 3:4, enlarges photos narrower than 320 pixels and shrinks wider ones to 1080.

X, TikTok, Threads and WhatsApp
These networks don't publish a size table we could check. The resizer uses common sizes for them: 1600 × 900 for X post images, 1500 × 500 for the X header, and 1080 × 1920 (9:16) for TikTok covers and WhatsApp status. Check each app's preview before you post.
Resize one image for every network
Choose your image in the resizer below and pick a network and size. Use fill to crop to the exact shape, or fit to keep the whole image with a background colour or a blurred copy behind it. You can download a single size or every size for that network as one zip. It runs in your browser, so your image isn't uploaded.

- The shape matters more than the pixels. 1080 × 1350 and 2160 × 2700 are both 4:5. The bigger one only makes the upload slower, and most networks shrink it anyway.
- Start big, go small. Shrinking keeps an image sharp; enlarging a small one makes it soft.
- Keep text away from the edges. Profile pictures turn into circles, banners get cropped on phones, and stories put buttons over the top and bottom.
- JPG for photos, PNG for text and logos. PNG keeps sharp edges on lettering; JPG keeps photo files small.
- Recheck once a year. Networks change their layouts. The sizes on this page were checked in November 2026.

Questions
What size should images be for social media?
It depends on the network and the placement. A safe default for feed posts is 1080 pixels wide in a tall shape (4:5 or 3:4), and 1080 × 1920 (9:16) for anything full-screen. Profile pictures are square, banners are wide.
Is Instagram 9:16 or 4:5?
Both, for different places. Feed posts go from 1.91:1 landscape to 3:4 portrait, so 4:5 (1080 × 1350) and 3:4 (1080 × 1440) both work. Stories and reels fill the screen at 9:16 (1080 × 1920).
What are the recommended social media image sizes for 2026?
Instagram feed 1080 × 1440 or 1080 × 1350, Facebook Page profile 320 × 320 and cover 851 × 315, LinkedIn banner 1584 × 396, YouTube thumbnail 3840 × 2160 and banner 2560 × 1440, Pinterest pin 1000 × 1500.
