UTM builder
Paste the address you're sharing, pick where it's going, and get a link tagged with UTM parameters, so your analytics can tell this visit apart from all the others.
Free, no sign-up. Runs in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent to us or stored.
See which link brought people to your page
Put your tagged links on a Liite page, or tag the link to your page itself. Liite's cookie-free analytics read UTM tags on every visit, so you can see which campaign sent people.
How to use it
- Paste the address of the page you're linking to.
- Pick a preset, or type the source and medium yourself.
- Name the campaign, then copy the tagged link.
What UTM parameters do
UTM parameters are tags added to the end of a link, like ?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=social. They don't change the page people see. They tell analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Plausible or Liite where the visit came from, which a plain link often can't: apps like Instagram and WhatsApp usually don't pass a referrer at all.
There are five. utm_source is the site or sender (instagram, newsletter, google). utm_medium is the kind of channel (social, email, cpc, print). utm_campaign is the promotion (spring_sale). utm_term and utm_content are optional: the paid keyword, and which of two links or ads was clicked.
Keep the names consistent
Analytics tools treat Instagram, instagram and IG as three different sources, which splits your reports. Pick one spelling and stick to it: lowercase, with underscores instead of spaces. The builder suggests the tidy version whenever a value has capitals or spaces.
Write your names down somewhere your team can see them, so next month's newsletter uses the same source and medium as this month's.
Links that already have a query string
If the address already has parameters, like a product id or a ?ref= code, the builder keeps them and adds the tags after. Any old utm_ tags are replaced rather than added twice, and a #section at the end stays where it belongs.
Your history stays in this browser
The last 10 links you build are saved in this browser only, so you can copy them again later. They're never sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes them.
Questions
Do UTM tags affect SEO?
No. Search engines ignore them for ranking. Do use them only on links you share elsewhere, not on links between pages of your own site, where they'd overwrite the original source of the visit.
Which fields are required?
Source is the one most tools need. Medium and campaign are strongly recommended. Term and content are optional.
Are the tags case-sensitive?
Yes, in most analytics tools. Facebook and facebook show up as two separate sources, so keep everything lowercase.
My tagged link is long and ugly. What can I do?
Put it behind a button on your Liite page, or turn it into a QR code for print. People tap or scan, and never see the tags.
Can I tag the link to my Liite page?
Yes. Liite's analytics read UTM tags on visits to your page, so tagging liite.co/yourname in each bio or post shows which one sends the most people.
