Link preview checker
Paste any address to see the preview people get when you share it: the title, description and image each app picks, the tags behind them, and what to fix.
Free, no sign-up. We fetch the page for you and keep nothing about it. Nothing you type is stored.
Pages that share well, without the tags
Every Liite page gets a share image made from its title and theme, and you can set your own title, description and image for when the link is posted. Your page lives at liite.co/yourname.
How to use it
- Paste the address of the page you want to share, for example yoursite.com/menu.
- Press Check. We fetch the page once and read its share tags.
- Fix anything in the list of problems, then check again. Apps keep old previews for a while, so a re-share may take time to update.
Where link previews come from
When you paste a link into a chat or a post, the app fetches the page and reads a few tags in its <head>. Most read Open Graph tags, a format Facebook started: og:title, og:description, og:image and og:url. X also reads its own twitter: tags, such as twitter:card, which decides between a small card and a large image. When a tag is missing, apps fall back to the page's <title> and meta description, or show the bare address.
This checker reads the same tags, applies the same fallbacks and shows what each app would most likely display. Apps change their layouts often and don't publish exact rules, so the previews are close approximations rather than screenshots.
The image matters most
A preview with a picture gets far more attention than a plain link. Use an image of at least 1200×630 pixels, in a 1.91:1 shape, as a full https:// address. Keep important text away from the edges, because some apps crop to a square or a narrower shape, and keep the file under 1 MB so slow crawlers don't give up on it.
Facebook ignores images smaller than 200×200, and some apps refuse images served over plain http from an https page. The checker reads the first bytes of your image to report its real size.
Titles and descriptions
Keep og:title under about 60 characters and the description under about 160. Longer text gets cut with an ellipsis, and some apps hide the description entirely. Write the title for the person reading the chat, not for search engines: "Rosa's Bakery" reads better than "Rosa's Bakery | Home | Best Bread Edinburgh".
Changed your tags but the preview didn't update?
Apps cache previews, sometimes for days. Facebook and LinkedIn have their own tools to fetch a page again; for others, adding a harmless query string such as ?v=2 to the link makes them treat it as new. We fetch your page fresh each time (results may be cached for about ten minutes) and don't store what we find.
Questions
Is the link preview checker free?
Yes. You can check up to 50 links a day without an account, and 300 when you're signed in to Liite.
Why does my preview look different in the real app?
Each app has its own layout, crops images differently and changes things without notice. The previews here follow each app's usual layout and length limits, so treat them as a close guide.
Can it check pages behind a login?
No. We fetch the page the way an app's crawler would, without cookies, so we see what the public sees. Pages that block crawlers can't be checked either.
What size should my share image be?
1200×630 pixels works everywhere. Save it as JPG or PNG, under 1 MB, and link it with a full https:// address in og:image.
Do you store the pages I check?
No. We fetch the page, read its tags and send the result back to you. Nothing about the page or the address is kept.
