Short links
Google Maps link shortener
Google Maps already gives you a short link: open the place, choose Share and copy the link. Make your own short link when you want an address people can read off a flyer, a QR code for your window, or to know how many people looked you up.
Get the short link from Google Maps
On a phone, open the place in Google Maps and tap Share. On a computer, open the place, or go to Menu and choose Share or embed map. Then choose Send a link and Copy link.
The link Google gives you is already short. Paste it into a message, your website or your Liite page as it is.
Do Google's short Maps links still work?
Google stopped making new goo.gl links in 2018 and has since switched off old goo.gl links that nobody used. Its developer blog says links generated in Google apps, such as Maps sharing, keep working.
So a Maps share link is fine to use. What it can't do is change where it points, show you clicks, or read well on paper.
When your own short link is better
Use your own short link when the address appears somewhere people have to type it or scan it.
- A readable address for print, such as liite.co/x/find-us
- A QR code for your window, menu or delivery flyer, with scans counted
- Move premises? Change where the link points, and every flyer still works
- See how many people opened directions, by day and device
Put it on your page
Most people look for directions next to your hours and phone number. The Small business template on this page has a Find us link at the top: paste your Maps link there, and use one short link for the whole page.
A real example
The Small business template, compiled by the same code that builds every Liite page, renamed for a sample café. The Find us link is where your Google Maps link goes.

Questions
- How do I shorten a Google Maps link?
- Use Share → Copy link in Google Maps, which gives a short link already. If you want your own readable address or a QR code with scan counts, point a Liite short link at the Maps link.
- Will a goo.gl Maps link stop working?
- Google's developer blog says goo.gl links generated by Google apps, such as Maps sharing, keep working. Only unused links made with the old public goo.gl shortener were switched off.
- Can I make a QR code for my location?
- Yes. Make a short link to your Maps link and download its QR code, or use our free QR code generator with the Maps link itself.
- Can I change the location later?
- Not with a Maps share link. With a Liite short link you edit the destination, and the short link and its QR code stay the same.
