Short links

URL shortener with QR code

Make a short link and you get a QR code for it too. Print the code, and you can still change where it goes after the posters are up, with every scan counted.

Why put a short link behind a QR code

A plain QR code stores the address itself, so it can never change. If the page moves or the event changes, you reprint.

A QR code for a short link stores the short address. You edit where the short link goes, and the printed code follows. A shorter address also makes a simpler code with bigger squares, which scans more easily from a distance.

What you get with each short link

Every Liite short link has its own QR code, and the same options apply to people who scan as to people who click.

  • The QR code in your colour, as PNG or SVG
  • Scans counted apart from clicks, by day, country and device
  • A start and end time, so a code only works during the event
  • A click limit, after which the link shows that it has expired
  • A password on Pro and up

Print it so it scans

Keep strong contrast: dark squares on a light background. Leave a clear margin round the code, and print it big enough for the distance people will scan from. Test it on more than one phone before you print the full run.

Free QR code or short link QR?

If the address will never change and you don't need counts, our free QR code generator is enough: no account, and nothing leaves your browser. Use a short link QR code when you might change the destination, or want to see what the print brought in.

A real example

The Event template, compiled by the same code that builds every Liite page, renamed for a sample fair. A poster's QR code would hold a short link to this page, which you can re-point after printing.

Questions

Can I change where a QR code goes after printing it?
Only if the code holds a short link. Edit the short link's destination, and the printed code opens the new address.
Are the QR codes free?
Yes. Each of the 10 short links on the Free plan comes with a QR code and scan counts. Our QR code generator tool is free too and needs no account.
Do QR codes for short links expire?
No, unless you set an end time or a click limit on the link. Delete the link and the code stops working.
Can I see how many people scanned it?
Yes. Scans are counted separately from clicks, by day, country and device, without cookies.
