Word count in Pages

Mac

1. Click View in the toolbar, then choose Show Word Count.
2. To see another statistic, click the arrows on the right of the counter and pick characters with spaces, characters without spaces, words, paragraphs or pages.
3. Drag the counter anywhere on the page if it's in the way.
4. To hide it, click View again and choose Hide Word Count. If the counter was last showing another statistic, the menu item says that instead, for example Hide Character Count.

iPad

1. Tap the view options button at the top of the screen, then tap Show Word Count.
2. The counter appears near the bottom of the screen. Drag it to a corner if it's in the way.
3. Tap the counter to see the other statistics, then tap one to show it instead.

Pages for iCloud

1. Click the View button in the toolbar, then choose Show Word Count.
2. The count appears in a pop-up near the bottom of the page. Click the arrow on its right to see all the statistics.
3. To hide it, click View and choose Hide Word Count.

Count part of a document

Select the text you want to check, such as one paragraph or one answer on a form. The counter updates to count only the selection. Click outside the text to go back to the whole document.

Add the page count to the document

On a Mac, click where the page count should go, such as a footer, then click Insert in the toolbar and choose Page Count. It updates as you add or remove pages and appears in the printed document.

Text outside Pages

To count text from a web form, an email or another app, paste it into the counter on this page. It also shows sentences, reading time and your most used words, and nothing you paste leaves your browser.
