SMS link generator
Type a phone number and an optional message. You get an sms: link that opens the visitor's Messages app ready to send, an HTML link for your website or emails, and a QR code to print.
Free, no sign-up. Runs in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent to us or stored.
Give people every way to reach you
A Liite page puts a call button, your WhatsApp link and your email next to each other, behind one QR code you can print, with a count of how many people tapped each one.
How to use it
- Enter the phone number with the country code, for example +1 555 0100.
- Write the message people will send you, or leave it empty.
- Copy the link or the HTML snippet, or download the QR code.
How SMS links work
An sms: link is like a mailto: link for text messages. When someone taps it on a phone, the Messages app opens with your number in the To field and, if you added one, your message in the text box. They still press send themselves, so nothing is sent for them.
The message has to be URL-encoded so spaces, line breaks and symbols survive the trip. This tool does that, and gives you a ready-made HTML link to paste into a website, a newsletter or an email.
iPhone, Android and desktop
Current iPhones and Android phones both fill in the number and the message. Links to several numbers at once (group texts) aren't handled the same way across phones, so this tool makes links to one number.
On a desktop computer an sms: link may do nothing, or open a phone-link app if one is set up. If many of your visitors are on laptops, show the number as text next to the link too.
The QR code
The QR code uses the SMSTO: format, which most phone cameras and scanner apps understand. Scanning it opens a new text to your number with the message ready. Print it on a flyer, a poster, a shop window or a product label.
Print it large enough to scan from where people will stand, and keep some blank space around it. Scan it with a couple of phones before you print a batch, so you know the number and message come through as you meant.
Where a text link helps
Texting suits people who don't use WhatsApp or would rather not call: booking an appointment, asking for a quote, confirming a pickup. A pre-filled message such as "Hi, I'd like to book a table" tells you what they want and where they found you.
Keep the message short and leave room for people to add their own details, such as a date or a name. Write it the way your customers would, so it doesn't feel like a form.
The link and QR code are made in your browser. We don't see or store the number or message you type.
Questions
Is the SMS link free?
Yes. sms: links are a standard part of phones and browsers, and this generator is free with no sign-up. The person who texts you pays their usual message rate.
Why does nothing happen when I click the link on my computer?
Most desktop computers have no app for text messages. The link is meant for phones; on a computer it may open nothing or a phone-link app.
Can I send to more than one number?
Group SMS links don't work reliably across iPhone and Android, so this tool makes links to a single number.
Can I change the message later?
The message is part of the link, so a new message means a new link or QR code. If you print a QR code, test it with the final message first.
Should I include the country code?
Yes. With the country code, the link works for people texting from abroad as well as at home.
