Mailto link generator
Fill in who it's to, a subject and a message. You get a mailto: link that opens a new email ready to send, an HTML link for your website, and a QR code.
Free, no sign-up. Runs in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent to us or stored.
Take messages without showing your address
A contact form on a Liite page sends messages to your inbox, so you don't have to put your email address where spam bots can read it.
How to use it
- Enter one or more email addresses in the To field.
- Add cc and bcc addresses if you need them.
- Write a subject and the body of the email.
- Copy the link or the HTML snippet, or download the QR code.
How mailto links work
A mailto: link opens the visitor's email app with a new message already addressed. You can add a subject, a body, and cc or bcc recipients, so people only need to press send, or add a line of their own first.
Everything after the address has to be encoded. This tool follows RFC 6068, the standard for mailto links: spaces become %20 and line breaks become %0D%0A, so Gmail, Outlook and Apple Mail show your subject and paragraphs the way you wrote them. It also checks that each address looks valid.
Where to use them
Use a mailto link for a "Request a quote" button with the subject filled in, a support link with a short template for people to complete, or an RSVP that lands in your inbox with a subject you can filter on. Paste the HTML snippet into a website, a newsletter or a PDF.
Print the QR code on a poster or flyer and scanning it opens a new email on the phone. Print it large enough to scan from where people will stand, and test it with your own phone before you print a batch.
A fixed subject line makes these emails easy to find and sort. Give each link its own subject, such as "Quote request" on your pricing page and "Event RSVP" on an invitation, and set a filter in your inbox to label them.
Things to know
The link opens the visitor's default mail app. On a shared or work computer that may be nothing at all, or an app they never use. Show the address as text next to the link so people can copy it instead.
Keep the body short. Some mail apps and browsers cut off links longer than about 2,000 characters, so a long template may arrive incomplete.
An email address in a link on a public page can be read by bots that collect addresses for spam. If that worries you, use a contact form instead.
Made in your browser
The link, the snippet and the QR code are made on your device. We don't see or store the addresses or text you type.
Questions
Is the mailto link generator free?
Yes. There's no sign-up, and mailto links are a standard part of every browser, so they don't expire.
Why does nothing happen when I click a mailto link?
Your computer has no default mail app set up. Set one in your system settings, or copy the address and write the email in webmail.
Why do line breaks show up as odd characters?
They weren't encoded the way mail apps expect. This tool writes line breaks as %0D%0A, which Gmail, Outlook and Apple Mail all read as new lines.
Can I send to several people?
Yes. Add more than one address in To, cc or bcc and the tool puts them all in the link.
Will a mailto link get my address spammed?
It can. Bots read addresses from public pages. A contact form on your Liite page keeps your address hidden and still sends messages to your inbox.
