HTML hosting

Free HTML hosting

Upload an HTML file, a zip or a folder with an index.html, and it's live at yourname.liite.site with HTTPS. The free plan suits small sites you want to test or share for a few days; paid plans keep a site up for good.

What you can host

Each uploaded site gets its own address and its own origin, so root-relative paths like /css/site.css work as they do on your computer.

  • One HTML file, which becomes the home page
  • A zip or a folder with an index.html at the top (one wrapping folder is fine)
  • Single-page apps built with React, Vue and the like: turn on the SPA option and unknown paths fall back to index.html
  • A PDF, which opens in a viewer with zoom, search and page thumbnails
  • Other files, such as images, Markdown, text, JSON, CSV and video, each in a clean viewer, or a list of files to download

What the free plan includes, and what it doesn't

Free is for trying things out and sharing a draft. An uploaded site on Free can be up to 3 MB, and publishing one needs a card on file: starting the free Pro trial counts, and you aren't charged during the trial.

A free uploaded site goes offline 7 days after you last publish. We email you two days before, and republishing restarts the clock. Free uploaded sites also tell search engines not to index them, which keeps throwaway sites out of search results.

On Pro, a site can be up to 25 MB, it doesn't expire, and it can use a password and your own domain. Business allows 500 MB per site.

How to host an HTML file

It takes a minute if your files are ready.

  • Make a free account, then choose + New → Upload files.
  • Drop in your .html file, zip or folder, and pick the address: yourname.liite.site.
  • Publish. The site goes live after the upload checks pass.
  • To change it, upload again or edit the files in the browser's code editor. The address stays the same and the old version is kept, so you can roll back.

Can you host HTML on Google Drive?

Not any more. Google deprecated web hosting in Drive on 31 August 2015 and stopped serving pages from googledrive.com/host on 31 August 2016. A file shared from Drive today downloads or previews; it doesn't run as a web page.

If your HTML lives in Drive, download it and upload it to a host that serves it as a site, such as Liite.

A real example

Uploaded sites are your own files, so there's no starter to show. If you don't have HTML yet, this is the alternative: the Portfolio template, compiled by the Pages compiler, which you build with blocks instead of code.

Questions

Can I host an HTML website for free?
Yes, for a short time. On Liite's Free plan an uploaded site of up to 3 MB stays online for 7 days after you last publish, and publishing needs a card on file through the free Pro trial. For a site that stays up, use a paid plan.
How do I host HTML locally?
Open the .html file in your browser, or, if the page loads other files, start a small local web server in its folder. With Python installed, run python -m http.server and open http://localhost:8000. Only you can see it; upload it to share a link.
Can I host HTML in Google Drive?
No. Google ended web hosting in Drive on 31 August 2016. Drive can store and share the file, but it won't serve it as a website.
Will Google index my site?
Not on Free: free uploaded sites ask search engines not to index them. On paid plans that applies only to a site's first day after its first publish, then it can be indexed like any site.
Does JavaScript work on an uploaded site?
Yes. Your files are served as they are, scripts included, on their own liite.site address. Every upload is checked for phishing patterns and unsafe archives first.
