Favicon generator
Type one or two letters, pick an emoji or upload your logo. You get favicon.ico, the PNG sizes phones and browsers ask for, a web manifest and the tags for your page's head, in one zip.
Free, no sign-up. Runs in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent to us or stored.
Give your page its own icon
An uploaded site at yourname.liite.site can use these files as they are: drop them in your site's folder next to index.html. Liite pages come with a share image and a QR code of their own.
How to use it
- Choose letters, an emoji or an image, then pick a shape and colours.
- Check the preview in the browser tab at 16 pixels, where favicons are usually seen.
- Download the zip, put the files in your site's root folder and paste the tags into your page's head.
What's in the zip
favicon.ico holds 16, 32 and 48 pixel versions in one file. Browsers use it for tabs, bookmarks and history, and some tools still look for it at /favicon.ico even when a page doesn't link to it. The PNGs at 16 and 32 pixels are the modern way to say the same thing.
apple-touch-icon.png at 180 pixels is what an iPhone or iPad shows when someone adds your site to their home screen. It's drawn as a full square, because iOS rounds the corners itself and turns transparent areas black. The 192 and 512 pixel icons and site.webmanifest do the same job on Android and in Chrome.
Designing for 16 pixels
A favicon is usually seen at 16 pixels square, about the size of a capital letter in this sentence. Detail disappears at that size, so one bold letter or a simple symbol on a strong colour works better than a full logo with small text. Two letters can work if they're short and wide.
Check the tab preview before you download. If your logo turns into a blur, try just its first letter or its main shape. Emoji favicons are quick and friendly, but each device draws emoji its own way, so yours will look slightly different on Apple, Android and Windows.
Adding it to your site
Unzip the files into the top folder of your site, next to your home page, so they're served at addresses like /favicon.ico. Then copy the tags into the head of every page, or into your site's shared layout. Browsers cache favicons hard, so open the site in a private window to see the new one straight away.
Your files stay on your device
The icons are drawn in your browser. Your logo isn't uploaded to us or stored anywhere.
Questions
What size should a favicon be?
Provide several: 16 and 32 pixels for browser tabs, 48 inside favicon.ico, 180 for Apple devices and 192 and 512 for Android. This generator makes all of them from one design.
Do I still need favicon.ico?
It's worth keeping. Every browser understands it, and some tools and older browsers request /favicon.ico directly even without a tag.
Can I use an SVG logo?
Yes. Upload the SVG and it's drawn at each size. A square logo with a bit of space around it gives the cleanest result.
Why does my old favicon still show?
Browsers cache favicons for a long time. Open your site in a private window, or clear the browser cache, to see the new one.
Can I use an emoji as a favicon?
Yes. Pick Emoji, type or paste one, and choose a background or leave it transparent. It's drawn with your device's emoji font.
