Leave room for text and stickers
A story background works best when it's calm where the words go. Keep the busiest part of the gradient near the middle and plain colour at the top and bottom, where your name and the reply bar appear over the image.
If you'll put white text on it, keep the darker stops behind the text. If you'll use black text, lighten the stops instead. For a series of stories, keep the same colours and change only the angle, so they look like one set.
