Portfolio website

A portfolio website shows a few of your best projects, says what you do in one line, and makes it easy to hire you. Start from the Portfolio template, swap in your own work and share one address.

What a portfolio website is for

A portfolio website is a page that shows your work to people who might pay for it: clients, studios or employers. It isn't a CV and it isn't an archive. Its job is to make someone think "this person can do what I need" and then contact you.

That means a small number of strong projects beats a long grid of everything. Three to six pieces is plenty, as long as each one says what the brief was and what you did.

A simple layout that works

Most good portfolios follow the same wireframe, top to bottom. Sketch it on paper first if that helps, then fill it in.

  • Your name or studio name, and one line on what you do and for whom
  • Selected work: each project as a link, an image or a small gallery
  • One sentence per project: the problem, what you did, the result
  • A clear button: "Hire me", "Email me" or "Book a call"
  • A short about section and your profiles, at the bottom

Choosing a name for it

Your own name is usually the best choice, because it's what people type when they look you up. If it's taken, add what you do ("samdesigns") or your town. Keep it short and easy to say out loud.

Check whether the name is free with the username checker before you settle on it. You can rename your page later; the old address redirects for 30 days.

How to build it on Liite

Pick the Portfolio template, the example on this page. It has a heading, two case-study links and a hire-me button, plus an About tab.

  • Change the title and line to your name and what you do.
  • Replace the case-study links with your projects. Add a Gallery block for visual work.
  • Point the button at your email or a contact form.
  • Publish and share liite.co/yourname, or connect your own domain on Pro.

A real example

The Portfolio template, compiled by the same code that builds every Liite page, with a made-up studio name. Swap the two case studies for your own projects and point the button at your inbox.

Questions

What is a portfolio website?
A website that shows examples of your work so people can decide whether to hire you. It usually has a few projects, a line about what you do, and a way to get in touch.
Can I make a portfolio website for free?
Yes. The Free plan gives you one site at liite.co/yourname with up to 15 blocks, which is enough for a short portfolio. It shows a small Liite badge, and a custom domain needs Pro.
What's the best website builder for a portfolio?
It depends on the work. If you want a quick, light page with your best projects and a contact button, a page builder like Liite is enough. If you need a blog, a shop with checkout or hundreds of project pages, a full website builder or CMS suits you better.
Does the template's About tab work on Free?
Free sites have one tab, so a new Free site starts with the Home tab only. Put a short about line on Home instead, or start the Pro trial to keep both tabs.
