Gmail signature on mobile

In the Gmail app, open Menu > Settings, then tap Mobile signature on Android (after choosing the account), or Signature settings on iPhone, where you also turn on Mobile Signature. Type your signature and save. If you never set one, the app uses the signature from Gmail on your computer.

The steps differ a little between Android and iPhone, so both are below.

  4. Turn on Mobile Signature.
  5. Add or edit your signature.
  6. Tap Back to save.

Google says that if you have more than one account in the Gmail app on iPhone, you change this setting for each account.

Mobile signature or computer signature?

A mobile signature is only added to emails you send from the Gmail app. Google says that if you don't create one, new messages from the app use the signature you set up on your computer. So you have two choices:

  • No mobile signature: your phone uses your full computer signature. Good if it's tidy and short.
  • A mobile signature: a short text line just for your phone, such as your name and number.

Make the computer signature short enough to work in both places, and you may not need a mobile one at all.

Make the computer signature

Fill in the generator below, press Copy signature, then in Gmail on a computer click Settings > See all settings, paste into the Signature box and click Save Changes. The Compact layout keeps everything on one line, which reads well on a small screen.

Google's steps for the app are about entering text, so keep the mobile signature plain and set the designed one on your computer.

Gmail account in the iPhone Mail app

If you read Gmail in Apple's Mail app rather than the Gmail app, the signature is set in iPhone Settings, not in Gmail:

  1. Open Settings and tap Apps, then Mail.
  2. Tap Signature.
  3. Edit the text. Tap Per Account to set a different one for each account.

Apple says Mail signatures on iPhone can only be text.

If the signature still doesn't appear, see Gmail signature not showing. To change or delete it everywhere, see how to remove a Gmail signature.
