Gmail signature with image

In Gmail on a computer, click Settings > See all settings, go to the Signature section and add an image to your signature by web address, from Google Drive, or by uploading a file. Google recommends an image 70–100 pixels high by 300–400 pixels wide. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Here are the steps, the sizes, and fixes for an image that won't appear.

Add an image to your Gmail signature

  1. Open Gmail on a computer.
  2. At the top right, click Settings, then See all settings.
  3. In the Signature section, select your signature, or create one.
  4. Add your image with the image button in the editor.
  5. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Google lists three ways to add the image:

  • Web address (URL): the link to an image that's publicly available online.
  • My Drive: a public image from your Google Drive.
  • Upload: an image file from your computer or phone.

The image counts towards Gmail's 10,000-character signature limit, so keep it small. If you get an error, Google's advice is to resize the image.

What size to use

  • Recommended: 70–100 pixels high by 300–400 pixels wide.
  • Maximum: 100 pixels high by 1,000 pixels wide.

These sizes suit a wide logo. A square photo can be smaller: around 72 pixels across sits neatly beside your name. To change the size after adding it, select the image in the editor and choose Small, Medium, Large or Original size. You can also resize the file first, or, as Google suggests, put the image in a Google Doc, resize it there and paste it into the signature.

If your image doesn't show

  • From Google Drive: the file's sharing must be set so anyone with the link can view it. If the image file is deleted from Drive, it disappears from your signature.
  • Work or school account: if you can only add images by URL, your admin controls Drive sharing. Ask them, or use an image hosted on your website.
  • Upload problems: Google suggests clearing your browser's cache, allowing cookies for mail.google.com, trying an incognito window or another browser, and trying a different upload method.
  • Wrong size or position: delete the image and add it again, using the recommended size.

Remember that people reading your email may have images turned off. Put your name and details in text, not inside the image.

The generator below puts a round photo or logo beside your details. Paste the https link to an image that's already online into Photo or logo URL, press Copy signature and paste into Gmail's Signature box.

The tool shows the image 72 pixels wide in this layout, so a 144 × 144 file looks sharp on high-resolution screens. It links to your image; it doesn't upload or host it.

What is the best image size for a Gmail signature?

Google recommends 70–100 pixels high by 300–400 pixels wide. The largest it allows is 100 pixels high by 1,000 wide.

How do I adjust the image size in my Gmail signature?

Select the image in the signature editor and choose Small, Medium, Large or Original size. Or resize the file before you add it.
