Link in bio on Instagram: what it means and where to find it
"Link in bio" means the link is on the person's profile, not in the post. Tap their name or profile picture to open their profile, and the link is near the top with their name and bio. Tap it to open the page they're talking about.

Why people say "link in bio"
Instagram gives you two places for a link people can tap: your profile, where you can add up to 5 websites, and the Link sticker in a story. A story is gone after 24 hours, so posts and reels point to the one place that stays: "link in bio".
The phrase means the same thing on TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and elsewhere: the link is on the profile, not under the post. "Link on bio" is a less common way of saying it, and "link in bio" has become a meme because so many posts end with it.
How to find the link in someone's bio
- Tap the person's name or profile picture above their post, reel or story.
- On their profile, look at the top part: their name, their bio and, below it, their link.
- Tap the link. If they've added more than one, pick the one you want.
If you came from a video that says "full video at the link in bio", the link usually goes to the creator's other account, a website or a page with all their links. If the link doesn't match what the post promised, don't sign in or download anything from it.
What you'll see when you tap it
Most people use their bio link for one of three things:
- A single page: their shop, newsletter, latest video or booking page.
- A link-in-bio page: one page with all their links, made with a tool such as Liite, Linktree or Beacons. It lists their latest work, their shop, their socials and anything else they want you to find.
- Their website.
A link-in-bio page exists because one profile link isn't always enough. Instagram allows up to 5 links on a profile, but a page lets someone add more, change them every week, and show thumbnails, videos or a sign-up form.
When the link isn't there
- They haven't added one, or they took it down after the post went up.
- The post is old. The link may now point somewhere else, or the page it pointed to may have gone.
- Teen accounts. Instagram doesn't allow people under 18 to link to some websites in their bio, and says it may remove links like that.
Add a link to your own bio
Go to your profile, tap Edit profile, then Links, then Add external link (Add link on Android). Our guide on how to add a link in your Instagram bio has every step, plus how to reorder and remove links.
If you want one link that leads to everything, make a free Liite page at liite.co/yourname and put that in your bio. Then a post can say "link in bio" and mean it, whatever you're sharing that week.

Questions
Where is the link in bio on Instagram?
On the person's profile. Tap their name or profile picture to open it; the link is in the top part, with their name and bio. People can add up to 5 links there.
What does "tap the link in bio" mean?
It means: go to my profile and tap the link there. Instagram's places for clickable links are the profile and the Link sticker in stories, so posts and reels send you to the profile instead.
Is it "link in bio" or "link on bio"?
"Link in bio" is the usual phrase. "Link on bio" means the same thing, but you'll see it far less often.
I can't see a link in someone's bio. Why?
They may not have added one, or they may have removed it. Instagram also removes links to some websites from the bios of people under 18. A link someone mentions in an old post may simply be gone.
Is it safe to tap a link in someone's bio?
It's a link to another website like any other. Before you type a password or card details on the page it opens, check the address at the top and that you trust the account.
