UTM link example

Here's a UTM link example with all five tags set, on a page address that already has its own parameter and a #section. Change the fields and the tagged URL updates, so the example becomes your link.

Free, no sign-up. Made with our free utm builder, which runs in your browser.

What's included

  • A page address with an existing ?colour=blue parameter and a #reviews section, both kept in the tagged link
  • utm_source=google and utm_medium=cpc, the Google Ads pair from the builder's presets
  • utm_campaign=spring_sale, utm_term=running_shoes and utm_content=text_ad_a, written lowercase with underscores
  • The finished URL with the tags in a fixed order, ready to copy
  • Nine quick-pick presets for other places you share links: Instagram, Facebook, newsletter, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, QR code or print, and WhatsApp

How to change it

  1. Replace the example.com address with the page you're linking to. Parameters it already has stay in place.
  2. Tap the preset for where you're sharing the link, or type your own source and medium.
  3. Change the campaign name, then clear term or content if you don't need them. An empty field removes that tag.
  4. Copy the tagged URL, or save it to the history in this browser to copy again later.

Questions

What does a UTM link look like?

Like this page's example: https://example.com/running-shoes?colour=blue&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=spring_sale&utm_term=running_shoes&utm_content=text_ad_a#reviews. The tags go after the existing parameters and before the #section.

Is there a UTM template for naming campaigns?

Use the presets as your template: they fix a lowercase source and medium for each place you share. Add your campaign name in the same style every time, and write the list down for your team. Our post UTM parameters explained has a ready-made set.

Do I need all five tags?

No. Source, medium and campaign are the ones to set every time. Term is for the paid keyword in search ads, and content tells two links or ads in the same place apart.
