GST invoice generator: what to know

This page starts the invoice generator for this case. For every option and how to use it, see the invoice generator.

How GST shows on the invoice

Each line has its own GST rate, worked out on the line after any discount. The invoice then lists the GST for each rate, so a mix of 5% and 18% lines, or GST-free and taxed lines, adds up correctly. The total shows the amount before GST, the GST and the amount to pay.

The tax number boxes are labelled GSTIN, the Indian term. In Australia, put your ABN in your address details instead; in New Zealand and Canada, write "GST number" or "GST/HST no." before your number there, so the label on the PDF is right.

Is this GST billing software?

No. It's a free invoice maker for the odd invoice: no account, no ledger and no returns. It doesn't create e-invoices with an IRN or connect to any tax portal. If you need those, use accounting software. If you need a clean GST invoice now, with your logo, this does it in your browser.

Questions

What is a GST invoice?

A tax invoice from a GST-registered business that shows the GST charged, so a registered customer can claim it back. It carries your GST registration number, the tax on the goods or services, and the totals.

What's the difference between a GST invoice and a regular invoice?

A regular invoice asks for payment. A GST tax invoice also shows the tax in the form the tax authority requires. Businesses that aren't registered for GST send a regular invoice without GST; in Australia, business.gov.au says they must not call it a tax invoice.

Can I add my logo to a GST invoice?

Yes. Choose a logo image and it appears at the top of the PDF.
