How to use it

  1. Fill in who it's from and who it's for, the invoice number and the dates.
  2. Add each item with a quantity, a unit price and its tax rate, and a discount if you give one.
  3. Download the PDF, then press "Start the next invoice" to move on to the next number.

What an invoice should show

Most invoices need the same few things: a unique invoice number, the date it was issued and when it's due, your name and address, your client's name and address, a description of each item with its quantity and price, the tax on each, and the total. Add how to pay you so the client doesn't have to ask.

If you're registered for GST or VAT, add your tax number (GSTIN or VAT number), and your client's if they're a business. Rules differ by country, so check what's required where you work. This tool lays the information out; it isn't tax advice.

How the totals are worked out

Each line is quantity times unit price. A discount is spread across the lines in proportion to their value, and tax is worked out on each discounted line at its own rate, then grouped by rate on the invoice. Amounts are kept in whole cents (or paise, or rupiah) the whole way through, so the totals always add up exactly.

Currencies like the Indonesian rupiah and the Japanese yen are shown without decimals, the way they're invoiced in practice.

Numbering your invoices

Invoice numbers should be unique and in order, for example INV-0041, INV-0042. After you download an invoice, "Start the next invoice" moves to the next number, keeps your own details and clears the client and items.

Private by design

The PDF is made in your browser. Your draft is saved in this browser so it's there next time; your logo isn't saved, and nothing is sent to us. This is a free tool for the odd invoice, not an accounting system.

Questions

Is the invoice generator really free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no limit on invoices. It's a free tool from Liite, not a paid invoicing product.

Can I add GST or VAT?

Yes. Pick GST, VAT or sales tax as the tax name, set a rate on each line, and add your GSTIN or VAT number. Lines can have different rates; the invoice lists the tax for each rate.

Where are my invoices saved?

Only in this browser, as a draft you can come back to. We don't keep copies, so save each PDF you send.

Why does my PDF show INR instead of ₹?

The PDF uses a standard font that can't draw every currency sign, so ₹ and a few others are written as the currency code. The amounts are the same.

Can clients pay from the invoice?

Add your bank details, UPI ID or a payment link under payment details. To keep all your payment and contact links in one place, put them on your Liite page and add its link to the invoice.
