Text on pastels

Pastels are too light for white text: the best of these, light steel blue, gives only 1.78:1. Near-black text passes AAA on all eight.

For headings in colour, take the 800 or 900 step of any pastel's scale. It keeps the hue but is dark enough to read, which keeps a soft design from looking washed out.
