What to use italic for
Italic marks titles of books, films and albums, a quote, or a single word you want to stress. It's quieter than bold, so it works inside a sentence without shouting.
Because the h comes from a different block, it can look a little different from the letters around it on some phones. Sans italic avoids that: all its letters come from one place.
Italic or cursive?
Italic is upright text tilted to the right. Cursive, or script, has looped handwriting shapes. If you want the handwritten look, use the cursive text generator instead.
Bold italic sits between them: heavy and slanted. It's good for a short heading that needs to stand out.
Questions
How do I make text italic where there's no italic button?
Type it here and copy the Italic or Sans italic version. The slant is part of each character, so it stays when you paste.
Why does the h look different?
The italic h is a separate character called Planck constant, from an older Unicode block. Your phone's font may draw it slightly differently. Use Sans italic if that bothers you.
