Free, no sign-up. Made with our free invoice generator, which runs in your browser.
What's included
- The words "Tax invoice" as the heading
- Your business name and ABN
- The date of issue and a unique invoice number
- A description of each item with its quantity and price, and the GST payable
- The buyer's name and ABN, which are required on sales over $1,000
How to change it
- Replace the sample ABNs with yours and your customer's. The ABN is shown in the address boxes so it prints under each name.
- If you're not registered for GST, change the heading to "Invoice" and clear the GST rate: business.gov.au says you must not use the words "tax invoice".
- Set the GST to 0 on any line that's GST-free.
Questions
What must an Australian tax invoice include?
business.gov.au lists the words "tax invoice", your business name, your ABN, the date of issue, a short description of what you sold with quantity and price, and the GST payable. For sales over $1,000, add the buyer's identity or ABN.
When do I have to give a tax invoice?
business.gov.au says a GST-registered business must give one when a taxable sale is more than $82.50 including GST, or when the customer asks for one, and you have 28 days to give it.
What's the GST rate in Australia?
10% on most goods and services, according to business.gov.au. Some items are GST-free; set those lines to 0.
I'm not registered for GST. Can I still use this?
Yes. Change the heading to "Invoice" and remove the GST. A regular invoice has no legal content list, but business.gov.au suggests your business name, ABN, invoice number, date, contact details, a description and how to pay.
