Telegram link format

A Telegram link is t.me/ followed by a username, a plus sign and a phone number, or a path such as share/url. The tool below starts on t.me/telegram, Telegram's own channel, so you can see the format before you type yours.

Free, no sign-up. Runs in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent to us or stored.

Telegram link format: what to know

This page starts the telegram link generator for this case. For every option and how to use it, see the telegram link generator.

Reading a Telegram link

Everything after t.me/ tells Telegram what to open. A plain word is a public username. A plus sign followed by digits is a phone number; a plus sign followed by letters and digits is a private invite. A question mark starts the extras, such as text= for a ready-made message or start= for a bot.

Spaces and symbols in a message have to be URL-encoded, so a space becomes %20 and & becomes %26. The tool does that for you as you type.

Questions

What does a Telegram link look like?

Usually https://t.me/ followed by a username, like https://t.me/telegram. Private invite links look like https://t.me/+ followed by a random code.

Is the https:// part needed?

Telegram reads t.me/name with or without it, but include https:// when you paste the link into websites, emails and social bios so it turns into a clickable link.
