Cases for writing

UPPERCASE and lowercase change every letter. Sentence case capitalises only the first letter of each sentence, which is how most body text and many headlines are written today. It won't know which words are names, so check for those after converting.

Title Case capitalises the important words and keeps small words like "and", "of", "the" and "in" lowercase, unless they come first or last. That's close to what most style guides ask for, though they disagree on details such as longer prepositions, so check against the guide you follow. Capitalised Each Word is the simpler version: every word gets a capital, small ones included.

aLtErNaTiNg case switches between lower and upper letter by letter, and iNVERSE flips the case of each letter you typed. Both are mostly for fun, or for fixing text typed with Caps Lock on by mistake.

Cases for code and file names

Programming languages and tools have their own conventions for joining words without spaces. camelCase starts lowercase and capitalises each word after that (orderTotal), and PascalCase capitalises every word (OrderTotal). snake_case joins lowercase words with underscores (order_total), CONSTANT_CASE does the same in capitals (ORDER_TOTAL), and kebab-case uses hyphens (order-total), which is common in web addresses and CSS class names.

Paste a phrase like "order total" and copy the version your code or file naming needs, without retyping it or fixing each underscore by hand.

Accents and other alphabets

Accented letters such as é, ü and ñ change case correctly, so "café crème" becomes "CAFÉ CRÈME" rather than losing its accents. Scripts that don't have capital letters, like Chinese or Arabic, are left as they are.

Where people use it

Fix a heading pasted in all capitals, tidy a list of product names, make your blog titles consistent, or turn a page title into a clean web address. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you paste is sent to us or saved.

Questions

What's the difference between Title Case and Capitalised Each Word?

Title Case keeps small words like "and", "of" and "the" lowercase unless they're first or last. Capitalised Each Word capitalises every word.

How do I change text from all caps to normal?

Paste it in and copy the Sentence case result. Then check names and other words that should keep a capital.

What is camelCase used for?

Naming variables and functions in languages like JavaScript and Java. Words are joined without spaces and each word after the first starts with a capital.

Does it work with accented letters?

Yes. Letters like é, ö and ñ are converted to their capital or small forms and keep their accents.

Is my text stored?

No. The conversion happens in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
