HD image resizer: what to know

This page starts the social media image resizer for this case. For every option and how to use it, see the social media image resizer.

Get a sharp HD image

Most phone photos are larger than 1920 × 1080, so they shrink cleanly. A photo smaller than that has to be enlarged, which can't add detail; the resizer warns you if the result will look soft.

Phone photos are usually 4:3 or 3:4, not 16:9. Fill crops the top and bottom of a 4:3 photo to make it 16:9; fit keeps everything and adds side bars. Neither stretches the image, so faces never look squashed. For a portrait (upright) HD image, swap the numbers to 1080 × 1920.

Questions

How do I resize an image to fit 1920x1080?

Choose your image here: it's set to 1920 × 1080. Pick fill to crop it to 16:9, or fit to keep the whole image with bars, then download.

What resolution is HD?

HD usually means 1280 × 720 (720p), and Full HD 1920 × 1080 (1080p). Both are 16:9.

Does resizing reduce quality?

Shrinking keeps it sharp. Enlarging a small image beyond its original size makes it softer, because the extra pixels have to be guessed.
