Why use this instead of X's validator

X removed the preview from its Card Validator in 2022 and now points people to the post composer: paste the link into a new post and the card appears without posting. That works, but it doesn't tell you why a card is missing or small. This checker lists the tags X reads, flags the ones that are wrong and shows an approximate card next to the other apps.

Summary or large image

twitter:card picks the layout. summary shows a small square thumbnail beside the title; summary_large_image shows a wide image above it. If the tag is missing, X may still build a summary card from your Open Graph tags. For a big image, set summary_large_image and give X an image close to 2:1.

Why does my link show a small card on X?

twitter:card is missing or set to summary, or the image is too small for the large card. Set summary_large_image and use an image of at least 300×157 at a 2:1 ratio.

How do I update an old Twitter card?

X's crawler re-reads card tags roughly every seven days. While testing, X's troubleshooting guide suggests sharing a fresh address, such as the same URL with a placeholder parameter like ?x=test1, so the card is fetched as new.
