Censor image
Censor a photo or screenshot by dragging a black box over each part you want gone. The tool starts on Solid box, the one way of hiding something that can't be reversed, and switches to blur or pixelate in one tap.
Free, no sign-up. Runs in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent to us or stored.
At a glance
- What a solid box does
- Every pixel inside the box is replaced with black (#000000) in the downloaded file, so nothing of the original is left there.
- Blur and pixelation leak text
- A study of redacted screenshots recovered blurred and pixelated text and concluded neither is viable for redacting text.

- Faces too
- Neural networks have identified faces hidden by pixelation and by blurring.

- PNG keeps screenshots sharp

Censor image: what to know
This page starts the blur image for this case. For every option and how to use it, see the blur image.
What to censor in a screenshot
Before you share a screenshot, look for names, usernames, profile pictures, email addresses, phone numbers, order and account numbers, QR codes and barcodes, and the address bar. Notifications at the top of a phone screenshot often show names and message previews too.
Cover each one with a box slightly larger than the text. Then zoom into the preview and check that no letter edges are left.
When blur or pixelate is enough
For things that only need to look hidden, like a brand logo in the background or a stranger in a crowd, a blur or pixelation looks softer than a black box. For anything that would cause harm if read, keep the solid box.
Questions
Can a censored image be uncensored?
A solid box can't be undone: the pixels underneath are replaced. Blurred or pixelated text sometimes can be read back, which is why this page starts on Solid box.
Does my image get uploaded?
No. The image is edited in your browser and never sent to us.
Can I change the box colour?
No. The solid box is always black.
